The Cheboygan Arena

The Mission of the Cheboygan Arena is, ‘Create a Cheboygan Sports, Entertainment and Community Development Center, named The Cheboygan Arena that will provide increased local employment, generate economic growth thru its Sports and Entertainment offerings resulting in increased Tourist visitations, increased business sales for our business communities and provide Cheboygan with a unique Michigan Tip-o-the-Mitt attraction that the Cheboygan Community will be proud of.’

This proposal envisions a plan to build and operate a multi-purpose Sports, Entertainment and Community Development Center, with fixed seating for 4000 and a capacity to add additional seating on the arena floor for concerts and other special events.

Sports that would be featured in this proposal will be high school ice hockey, basketball, indoor track, wrestling, volleyball, swimming (suitable to an Olympic sized pool), a splash pool, football enhancement, cross country track meets using the proposed riverfront trail, and a range of larger events focusing on and including state high school championship play-offs, AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Olympic training site, MIAA (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) site and NHL Training camp exhibitions and other indoor sporting events such as all-sports coach’s clinics (off season), broom ball, curling, figure skating, indoor soccer, etc..

Additionally, the structure will have multi-purpose capabilities in its design to host concerts, Church gatherings, RV Shows, Boat and Jet Ski Shows, Ice Shows, Rodeos, Dirt Bike events and a variety of other special events such as Home Shows, Garden Shows, Boat and Water Sports Equipment Shows, etc...

The Arena will draw from populations of visitors and tourists and permanent residents from Cheboygan County, the cities of Cheboygan, Indian River, Alpena, and the broader areas of Houghton Lake to Petoskey, Sault St. Marie and Michigan’s eastern Upper Peninsula. This population numbers over 500,000 with-in 90 miles.
