Project: Customer Service Call Center
One of the major strategies for job creation in Cheboygan is the development of a customer service call center by a major company. These call centers typically employ 100, 200, and 300 operators, plus hi-tech support and management staff. They provide full time (not seasonal) employment at significantly higher wage levels than minimum wage and provide employee benefits such as health care insurance.
With increasing U.S. consumer/customer frustration with customer service representatives with difficult to understand foreign accents and lack of knowledge of U.S. culture, call centers have becme a growing segment of the US economy. Cheboygan has many advantages for compnies seeking to establish a low cost and efficient call center:
- ample local workforce at low labor costs
- non-union presence
- local governmental tax abatements
- educational resourses to shape and offer specialized training needed by a call center operation
- a population of over 250,000 with-in a 50 minute drive on an interstate highway
- no call centers competing within 100+ miles
- multiple physical location sites meeting call centers requirements
Possible Locations
- one floor brick building of 29,000 sq. ft.
- in-town one floor brick building of 50,000 sq. ft.
- industrial park one floor brick building of 26,000 sq. ft.
- shopping center location with 28,000 sq. ft.
